The Moths“There’s a kind of white moth, I don’t know
what kind, that glimmers
by mid-May
in the forest, just
as the pink moccasin flowers
are rising.
If you notice anything,
it leads you to notice
more
and more.” —Mary Oliver

Gouaching it up

Expressing creativity through different mediums

As I've experimented more with my art, I've come to learn that I love working with many different mediums. Truly, I just love to work with my hands to create things that represent the beautiful world we live in.

Meet the artist

Scarlett Jane

Hello! I’m Scarlett Jane, a 20-year-old artist going to college in Portland, Oregon. I work in a wide range of mediums but pencil and oil paint are my favorites. When I’m not creating art, I love spending time outdoors and getting lost in the pages of a good book. Thank you for visiting my website, and I hope my art resonates with you in some way.

Pencil sketching

As much as I love experimenting with art mediums, my favorite material to work with is the most simple. With just my pencil and my sketch book, I'm always amazed at how much there is to create.

This is me, by me.

Crochet

I have been crocheting since I was a young child, and my passion for it has continued throughout the years. Recently, I have challenged myself to take on more complex and time-consuming projects than before, such as the crocheted orchid featured below, as well as blankets, scarves, bags, and more.

Stained glass

While I have only completed one stained glass piece so far, I found working with this medium to be an incredibly enjoyable experience. The intricate nature of glass working has helped me to refine my fine motor skills, allowing me to create with greater precision and attention to detail.

Origami and paper crafts

In 2022, I created an origami model inspired by Monet’s iconic masterpiece, “Water Lilies.” The challenge of using only paper as my medium made the process both fun and rewarding, and I am pleased with the final result.
